Aster's 2024 year in review: Lessons, Milestones and Big Moves

As 2024 comes to a close we are looking back at the wonderful year we have spent with all of you, our community.

We left beta! The Aster that exists today is a robust, standalone EHR with all necessary features to chart care and run a practice. In 2025 we are adding even more features including superbill generation and patient portal. Today, we are out of the learning phase and into the building and growing phase.

The trifecta clinical and sales team was born. We added Emily Varnam to our team meaning we have a CNM, CPM and OB/GYN guiding customers through Aster demos, training and building all of the feedback and user needs into each product launch. You are in safe and loving hands with these three.

Our engineering team expanded to meet the demand. Each new feature has a powerful group of engineers behind it. Not only does Aster need to function seamlessly but it needs to look beautiful. Chris Balin, our designer, has been working through each page to make sure it's as intuitive as possible. While Gabriel Moreno, our new software engineer has been helping us keep up with changes to each feature.

We launched new features. Aster providers specifically love the side by side parent and newborn IPP charting, the resuscitation window with timer, EMS activation charting, NRP intervention buttons and full NRP protocol guide. The integrated labs (and bulk lab pricing) as well as document scanning to auto upload lab results have been our favorites to see people react to.

We met OBs, midwives, doulas and IBCLCs in person.  We travelled to Minneapolis, Phoenix, Dallas, Bakersfield and more to sit down in person and show teams, large and small, how Aster can serve their practices. This was so energizing. If you feel hopeless about maternity care in the US we highly recommend talking to providers about how they show up for the families they care for. YOU give us hope and we do this to best elevate your work.

Over 10,000 patients received care on Aster. On every team call we talk about how to ultimately use Aster to improve patient outcomes. It is very clear to us that equipping midwives with more ease and convenience removes barriers to the kind of care that can save lives. This is our foundation.

We set ourselves up for success. We need practice management too! We streamlined our workflows by holding our first ever ‘automation day’ where we split into teams to automate parts of our daily work so that we can have more time to be 1:1 with our customers.

We grew our customer base by 50% this year and 125% in November alone. We have welcomed more practices to our community and have many more coming in January. As a small but mighty team of 10 it means the world to serve the wonderful care teams who trust Aster with the precious information that they do.

We upped our game at AABC. We attended the AABC conference for the second year, this time acquaintances have become friends, our operation has expanded with more space and people and we reached midwives who have become our customers.

We were featured in the news. Our fundraise close at the beginning of the year saw Aster featured in a number of publications including a feature exclusive with Axios Health. It was great to receive such supportive press around our story which drove new customers, partners and prospective employees to us.
